Algarve beaches are awarded for their excellent water quality

As in the last years, the Algarve beaches got the "Blue Flag" Label from the non-government organisation (NGO) Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). In total 74 beaches and 4 Marinas where awarded.

The Blue Flag is a eco-label awarded to over 3650 beaches and marinas in 44 countries across the globe. This year the Algarve achieved this precious award for 74 beaches and 4 Marinas along its coast line due to sustainable development through environmental education. The information is updated annually on 5 June for Europe.

The Blue Flag works towards sustainable development of beaches and marinas through strict criteria dealing with Water Quality, Environmental Education and Information, Environmental Management, and Safety and Other Services.

The Blue Flags are awarded for one season at a time and if the criteria are not fulfilled during the season or the conditions change, the Blue Flag may be withdrawn.
