Toll collection on A22 - Via do Infante will start at April 15, 2011

The users of highways former SCUT like Via do Infante/A22, which now are going to pay tolls will have to buy the chip from registration if they want to benefit from discounts and exemptions approved on September 9, 2010 by the Government in Cabinet.
Transport Minister Antonio Mendonca said in a press conference after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, "the electronic device registration is mandatory for all who wish to have access to discounts and exemptions."
According to the resolution adopted last Thursday, users of the Via do Infante will pay tolls until April 15 next year, but residents and businesses of municipalities located within 20 kilomters of highway will have an exemption in the first ten uses of each month and discount 15% in the following.
According to this law, the chip is not required, and users can use four instruments for payment of tolls on SCUT: use of electronic registration device (chip), use of the device Via Verde, and the temporary use of the device after payment.
However, as stated by the Transport Minister, only vehicles with chip registration have access to free and discounted use of the highways.
